Our Vision
Why Kitsune Was Created and its Vision
Kitsune was created from years of experience recognizing common problems businesses face in the data analytics industry. We've noticed that many providers aggressively push expensive solutions—such as Big Data and AI—to small and medium-sized businesses, even when these businesses aren't ready or don't need such extensive capabilities. Before you can truly benefit from advanced data analytics, your business must first have data that is clean, accurate, and properly structured.
The business intelligence (BI) market in South Africa is still developing, with slow adoption of modern BI tools. Many companies remain reliant on outdated reporting methods. Even businesses that have transitioned from older tools, to Power BI often struggle to utilize it effectively due to a lack of expertise and proper training. They mistakenly assume Power BI works exactly like previous tools, missing out on its full potential. Additionally, roles within organizations often blur, with data engineers expected to perform Power BI development tasks, and vice versa. This mismatch of skills results in poorly optimized reports, slow performance, and a frustrating user experience, ultimately leaving the true capabilities of Power BI unused.
Due to the high costs and lack of specialized skills required for advanced data solutions, many businesses continue relying on Excel. This dependency often leads to poor data quality and multiple conflicting versions of the truth. When these businesses finally decide to transition to more advanced systems, correcting historical data becomes a massive undertaking, causing delays and increased costs. Achieving clean, reliable data can take years, especially if current data management practices aren't promptly improved.
When businesses approach data projects as isolated, one-time tasks—whether done internally or outsourced—they typically rely on strict deadlines and sprints to manage outcomes. While this may help management maintain control and oversight, it often pressures developers into cutting corners to meet tight deadlines, prioritizing speed over quality. As a result, solutions quickly deteriorate, becoming obsolete or ineffective, and ultimately requiring costly redevelopment efforts.
Kitsune Solution and Vision
By using affordable tools, following industry best practices, and carefully allocating our expertise at critical points during development and maintenance, we provide practical and cost-effective data solutions. This allows small businesses to confidently begin their data analytics journey and enables medium-sized businesses to enhance their existing solutions while reducing their capital expenditure.
From Tool Perspective and Approach
Our approach is inclusive and practical. We recognize that many businesses prefer and benefit from Excel, so our strategy is to integrate it effectively alongside Power BI rather than replace it entirely.
For smaller businesses, we utilize Microsoft Access as a simple data warehouse solution hosted directly in your existing OneDrive, leveraging your Office 365 tools without additional cost.
For those businesses looking to adopt Microsoft Fabric, we begin conservatively with the cost-effective F2 SKU, optimizing your usage to manage expenses effectively. We only recommend upgrading when necessary for maintaining performance.
Our ETL and data storage solutions are semi-automated, allowing us to actively manage key data dimensions, allocation, and value-adding processes. This hands-on approach ensures ongoing quality, effective maintenance, and continuous improvement of your data analytics solutions.
